In this episode I explain a simple exercise and method of moving between two and three congas. There are an infinite amount of ways to go about this hence it can be overwhelming to approach such a subject. For this reason I decided to start with this simple four stroke roll using open notes. Another very important aspect of this exercise and tutorial is the use of a metronome. In fact, the very idea of this tutorial is basically to give a template so you can ultimately construct your own method of moving about on the congas. The important thing to remember is to continue working on your tempo and practice effectively with a metronome for a prescribed amount of time. I would even suggest setting a timer for at least five to ten minutes and restrict yourself to one exercise at the same tempo. As you develop this your "inner metronome" will be strengthened and hopefully the ability to create a groove that feels good as you increase in the ability to manipulate rhythms with variations seamlessly within a prescribed tempo. This is a beneficial skill when playing with other band members.

Thanks for posting...taking technique and slowing it down with a metronome might get monotonous, but, it is so critical. Moreover, when you use proper technique; your sound and comfort level improves and this makes you want to play more, and facilitates new ideas/creativity. I hope that made sense.... Thanks
