Most believers in Sardis had a big reputation but nothing to show for it. The same happened in the post-Reformation period when the heirs of the reformers became stuck in their beliefs and practices, failing to continue to pursue the principles of the great Protestant Reformation, coming back to the Bible and allowing Scripture only (Sola Scripture) to guide one's faith and practice.

Still today many Christians look spiritually alive but in reality they are dead...
