Wrought Iron Door Bolt for the Shop - Part Three

In this video, we wrap up the slide bolt build, making the staples, cutting the plate, and filing, fitting, and riveting everything together. I seriously enjoyed this build, even though it was time-consuming. I definitely want to make up some better tooling for making staples in the future. This bolt was one of two I'm making for the front double-doors on my shop. The second bolt will be much shorter. When we have all the hardware together, we'll do a video on the actual door build.

Your lifestyle is a great example of how you can live while being oldschool and modern at once. And that technology shouldnt automatically mean giving up on oldschool things

There are a few YouTube channels that make my day when I see a new post come up, yours is a very welcome addition to that list.

Have been absolutely fascinated with your progress. I am just early, early on into blacksmithing. Enjoyed the video and was intrigued by the work you’ve done with the wrought iron. Cheers, Mark

Thanks for sharing! I've been following your channel for a few weeks for now, and I'm glad that I hear back most of the things I've been studying lately from traditional smithes here where I live. And it's a few thousand miles away from you. I love the fact that someone makes a great channel from traditional blacksmith methods in these bladesmith-driven, powerhammer-using world that youtube is all about lately. I'm not saying that's bad, but your approach is much more closer to my preferences. Thank you!

Beautiful. Well done.
Was that plate made entirely from flattening the 1” round or did you weld it on itself to get more mass? I’ll be making sheet iron someday in my future.
