Why don't we see as many miracles today as we saw in the book of Acts?

One very common question that I get, especially from young people, is about the miracles happening in the book of Acts and why we don't see all those miracles happening today. So in this short video, Shane Rosenthal shares his inside about the topic. Don't miss his response!

God is the same yesterday, today and forever! He still does miracles today and the gifts of the Spirit 🕊️ are still in operation today. And if we don’t get emotional about all that God does, we have deep spiritual problems. Yes there are false teachers and false signs and wonders, but our very real God is still alive and actively changing lives today through salvation, miracles, and gifts of the Spirit. 🕊️

Pastor Andy Woods has taught in his verse by verse study of Acts, that the times of miracles described in the Bible occurred when God was revealing a new thing…I.e. during Acts, the church was being started; during Moses time, the law was being given, etc. He did a thorough teaching and went through each major time in scripture where there were bursts of miracles. Very educational. Obviously, he also said that God can do miracles whenever He wants, but that the times where clusters of miracles occurred in the Bible is when God was revealing something new.

So many people, even Christians, go through their lives looking for signs from God as if they were as big and bold as billboards on the interstate.
All the while, overlooking the signs and wonders, He sends and provides for us daily.

How do you define "we" please? Because we in certain parts do see them, and often. You just have to know "where" to look 🙂

A better question might be, why don't we see the kind of preaching like the prophets and apostles of Biblical times had? How many preachers out there preach like Jesus or Paul or Peter or Stephen or Jeremiah or Elijah or Isaiah or the "minor" prophets? Not many that I know of. Why? Because we are afraid the same thing might happen to us as happened to them. We are too afraid that we will offend and make someone not like us. Preaching against sin is hard and we don't like hard. We would love miracles because we think everyone would love us and think we are cool to be able to do them. Preaching about sin and repentance is not cool and doesn't often make friends. I've been taught that signs follow believers not vice versa. Perhaps if we preached like we should believe, God would save us from the firey furnace, BUT IF NOT we should still not bow to the influences of this world.

I do not think miracles must be rare by definition, it is rather that they are beyond the power of the person who performs them. And so miracles happening every day do not contradict their definition. I see it rather a problem with our obedience that we do not see miracles so often.

Very helpful. I too came to faith in Jesus through the ministry of Pentecostals and out of a desire to see God honoured and people convinced of the truth of the Gospel I was drawn to the Charismatic Movement; however the more I experienced and observed what were claimed to be gifts of the Spirit, I saw NOTHING extraordinary or miraculous, and eventually a more careful study of the new testament led me to conclude that truly, the Apostolic sign gifts HAD CEASED, even before the closing of the NT canon - indeed the last miracle recorded in Acts was in about 58 AD, and when Paul wrote to Timothy he advised conventional cure for his bowel problems, and spoke of others who were ill, but he had made no attempt to heal them miraculously. We ought to pray for healing of the sick - James enjoins that practice, and sometimes the cure will be miraculous, but of course the greater miracle is when a cold, hard, impenitent heart is melted by the Word and Spirit, and new birth ensues!

If signs and wonders do not exist, or happen today we are the most wrenched of all people! Sad thing is this, demons and devils work false signs and wonders all day and every day, misleading and dragging souls to hell , even in so called churches. Maybe we as Christians have become blind and weak though false doctrine and lying teachers. Like with most other problems we have in the church today the answer is simple, the Holy Spirit is lacking !

I don’t think anyone should seriously comment on this without reading Craig Keener’s 2 Volume DEEP and exhaustively researched examination of miracles —from Acts until today.

Christians don’t perform miracles, but are simply vessels by faith for God’s power and love. There are God-honoring pastors and lay people that are seeing miracles everyday and whose faith is growing to heights many of us don’t even know exist.

Miracles also happen in order for God to achieve what he wants in the world. See the book called "God's Smuggler: Brother Andrew" about the man who founded Open Doors USA. God blinded the soldiers at check points into countries behind the iron curtain when he was illegally distributing Bibles into those countries.

I have seen many miracles, I have known people who have been raised from the dead. I have been visited by angels and people from heaven. The book of acts should be a model for us today. Heal the sick, cast out demons, rase the dead, preach the gospel! There are prophets and apostles today 😊

The late ending of Mark says the accompanying miracles proved that their message was true. What do we get now to prove the message is true?

I've heard miracles accompany the presentation of the gospel as it is breaking new ground. Many places have already received the gospel.
