Lex Fitzgerald wanted to give her daughter the best birthday party ever. Unfortunately, her 5-year-old daughter was left sitting all alone at the end of a long decorated table waiting for her classmates, who never show up for her party. Desperately trying to save her daughter's birthday, Fitzgerald sent out a plea on social media for anyone with young kids to show up to the party. Within 15 minutes, people started to arrive. Inside Edition's Ann Mercogliano has more.

Kudos to the people who not only showed up, but showed up with presents in hand!

Sometimes strangers treat you better than “friends”

My teen daughter made a Facebook friend through video games and he ended up in hospital with a terminal condition. She went out of her way to visit several times. After he died his sister got in touch with her and told her that she and her boyfriend were the only people apart from family who ever visited him in hospital, and thanked her saying it had been very lonely for him and he was very cheered up by her visits. I was so proud of her doing that.

That’s heartbreaking. No matter how popular or unpopular the child is, I always have my kids go to the party. No child deserves to be alone at their birthday party.

The fact that so many people from the community came that fast to show love and kindness to make a little girl’s birthday special melts my heart beyond measure.

The little girl got a lesson that most learn as adults, about 'friends.'

This happened to me in middle school. I started calling friends asking if they were coming. Not only did no one show up but two girls orchestrated the whole thing so no one would come. I ended up getting apologies but it did scar me so much that I still tear up about it when I think on it as an adult over 30 years later.

It breaks my heart, but she shouldn't keep saying that in front of her daughter.

as someone who had a party that no one showed up to as a kid, it scarred me to this day. i still don’t believe people will show up for me as an adult. i’m so glad she was spared the pain!

As a Mom, I understand how it hurts to see your baby hurting

This happened to me when I was 16; of the 50 people who had said they were going to attend and that I thought were my “friends” only 4 showed up. We had enough food for everyone that said they would be there so we had to give everyone who did come lots of food to take home because there’s no way we could eat all that food that day. I was so grateful for the 4 that kept there word.

My little son was hurt this same way by his classmates. It breaks a mother’s heart. He’s 32 now but I still cried seeing this video.

I worked at a movie theater and there was one time there was a party where only one kid showed up. We did much more than we usually did for the parties just to ensure those two kids had a good time. They got posters, promotional items, person tour of the projection booth (we weren't supposed to that anymore), refills on everything, all the employees sang them happy birthday. Like just as a worker its so hard to watch that kind of situation and not try to help

When I turned 4, my parents threw a party and no one showed up. Decades later, I still remember that pain. Luckily, my family is awesome, and helped me have a good time. Man, my family is awesome.

This happened to my son. I think it was the beginning of his change from a confident extrovert to a shy introvert.

In primary school there was this one girl who had a birthday party, but she didn't have any friends. I was always nice to her (but we weren't friends) so she decided to only invite me. I knew I was the only one she invited and eventough we weren't friends, I still decided to go. In the end I did enjoy myself and it was quite nice and she was really happy that I came to her birthday party.

Moral of the story, even if you aren't the best of friends with someone, please still go to their birthday party. It's a small thing you can do to make someone happy on their special day.

I'm impressed so many people got their kids out the door to the restaurant with a wrapped gift in 15 minutes. Impressive!

This happened to me when I was 16. It wasn't a birthday party, just an invite to a group of friends when my parents were away for the weekend. I got everything ready and....no one showed up. Not a single one. Turns up they were on their way and stumbled upon a house party of someone they knew and decided to go to that instead. Was a terrible feeling and still remember it to this day despite it being a long time ago.

Imagine a world where everyone's goal was to bring joy to just one person they hadn't met before. What an incredible place that would be.

"Friends didn't show up." Another definition of "friends", is required.
