Question: what would you recommend to reinforce those steps so they can support weight? Nothing too crazy, just enough to hold the weight of a typical 28mm model. Would you attach bracing on the undersides of the steps?

Awesome. But I wish you would have add a bit more to the stairs. Like rails and perhaps some color.

Good for a simple model. Not very strong if you're putting any kind of weight on those stairs. Maybe if you ran crafting sticks through that cardboard tube at equidistant lengths, then slid the cardboard slices over them, then bathe the whole thing in mod podge, it would beef them up to a point where you could put a doll or something similar on them.
