Unbelievably great video . I learned to speak German so I could talk to Rudi at Bathurst each year.

Protests lodged before the Bathurst race significantly affected the official results, which were not finalised until well into 1988. The two Eggenberger cars were disqualified for illegally modified front wheel arch guards, which allowed the cars to race on taller tires. The team appealed their disqualification as far as the appeals process allowed, the FIA's court of appeal. Eventually, the disqualifications were upheld and McLeod, Brock and Parsons were declared race winners.

It's actually from the 1987 WTCC, not the ETCC. That's why Mount Fuji, Bathurst, Wellington and Calder Park were included there. Granted the Wellington and Mount Fuji rounds took place in early 1988, but they were still part of the 1987 WTCC.

On 15/11/87, last round, Fuji 500 japan - eggenberger lost the Bathurst protest and had to put standard front guards on the 2 texaco Sierras. They still won easy with Ford 1st and 2nd.
The interesting part was Ford never mentioned or protested that the car that was awarded Bathurst - car 10, started illegally in 20th - should have been 27th, because that’s where Jon Crooke qualified.
All the Holden teams knew that the Mobile cars ran 12” tyres and 11 “ tyres were the biggest the Commodores could legally fit under the to their credit did not complain. Allan Grice and Larry Perkins will tell you exactly the same thing. The 1987 Original Bathurst year Book spoke about the car 10 & 05 guard in the 1st EDITION FUTHER PROOF - WIN PERCY BOUGHT THE 10 car shell home and stayed at Win’s property in England .
Rudi was told by Ford to change to standard guards at Bathurst and was honestly too stubborn to change them.
