Joe Biden hands over the reins to Kamala Harris | Democratic National Convention

A tearful Joe Biden was given a four-minute standing ovation as he took to the stage to say farewell at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

The US president branded Donald Trump a "loser" and said democracy "must be preserved" in a reference to the Capitol riots.

Mr Biden stood down as the party's candidate last month and was replaced by Kamala Harris.
