Word of the Week 33: Extrapolate

Welcome to General Grammar! In this episode, Mr. Goodie Grammar serves some fresh Word of the Week brew! This week’s word is EXTRAPOLATE.

Challenge: Use EXTRAPOLATE in a sentence, and post it in the comments section. If it’s funny and uses the word correctly, we will give you a shout-out in an upcoming episode.

Note: Some of these episodes have outrageous and wacky humor that contains--but not limited to--potential demonic possession, going to the bathroom in bottles, an addiction to sniffing gasoline, kidney harvesting, slang acronyms, etc. Mind you, these are all in jest and meant to reinforce the concepts with memorable humor (none of the episodes have any vulgarities or anything controversial, just ridiculousness). Please review each video ahead of time and determine whether or not the examples are the type of humor for your class/age-group. Ok as a little vocabulary expansion but to make it really useful realise that the lesson uses the same logic as Teaching teaching and subject again (like too many lessons), instead of teaching the practical. Comes across a little like a mere dictionary entry not teaching understanding or wisdom. If I would be patient enough I would teach by concentrating on extrapolating out loud for your lessons final part (the dictionary style teaching only goes so far) and you will teach much much more about the word and practical use of the idea extrapolate. I am reminded of the episode of the Simpsons in which Lisa loses hope because of corrupt politicians and becomes a school rebel and hides the textbooks from the teachers and the teachers cannot cope and school is cancelled. The irony is that if the students extrapolate well, they don't need the teacher to teach the method, they only need them to teach the subject.
