Full frame and entry level. It's going to be a first in fixed lens cameras.

Well, this is the most intriguing rumor i’ve heard in a long time. If they keep it reasonably compact with a good lens i’d jump on this. Appreciate your noting the earlier Panasonic models that could serve as design precedents. All look nice!

If they put the s5ii in the body of a gx8, I would buy that. The fixed prime lens is limiting without adaptors like how Fuji does tho. An interchangeable lens mount would be better, plus they have lenses that would fit it between the Leica and Panasonic brands. We will see.

Given the different sensors Panasonic has access to, I’d guess that this is more likely to be a 24mpix than a 61.

In that case it makes the comparison with the x100vi a bit tougher!

I heard it's going to be fixed focal length with a built-in 2x optical teleconverter like the old Betacams used to have.

I'm a huge m43 guy and have never really had an interest in an entire FF system. Longer focal lengths are often too shallow IMO if you want to take full advantage of FF light gathering abilities.

However.. I'd strongly consider picking up a fixed lens FF camera to go along side of my m43 ecosystem. ONLY if it had a 24-30mm f/1.4-1.8 prime lens. To me it would fully take advantage of a FF sensor at a very usable focal length and be relatively small at the same time. Not being able to change lenses though, I'd expect the price to be considerably lower than a modern FF camera with interchangeable lenses to justify a purchase from me. Less than $2, 000 would be quite tempting.

torn between the camera you described and a Lumix version of the Q3 with a highRes sensor for around 3700...
I hope for 28mm f2.0 and i would love them to make a kit with a 0.7x wide and a 2x Tele converter to put on

An upsized LX100 would be great. With a fixed lens, a prime instead of a zoom is too limiting.

Wow. I would love to see what Panasonic can do with a full frame fixed lens camera. Hopefully it will include 10-bit 422 video. It would be in direct competition with other fixed lens cameras. Exciting news.

This with the LUT feature for jpegs will be killer.

24Mpx would be a great mistake ! I expect a new Hi Res sensor which will also come for the S5 range.
Cropping ability is a key feature for a fixed lens camera. 50 Mpx FF is not an issue for a good lens and also in terms of noise.

This could be something special if they put Real Time LUT in it. A compact FF with film emulation colour profiles would be highly desirable.

That would be awesome.
I’ve been looking for a Sony RX1 for a long time. The only one I found was an original RX1, asking for no less than 5000 GBP! Absolutely crazy. With no x100vi to be found, a ff fixed lens compact size camera will be a hit.

Hope the lens will be 24/28 and not 35 like the Fuji and good video specs.

Will it be much/any better than what is already available? I doubt it.

Been waiting a long time for something like this.

This is exciting! Hopefully they include 10-Bit VLOG, that would make it a perfect companion for my S5ii

If indeed a successor to the LX100 will come out but ONLY in full frame version, I think we should really start to worry about the future of the Micro 4/3 system! I really hope it will never be abandoned altogether....

As someone who has lusted after the Sony RX1MkII but never could afford one, my wish list:
Must have:
Hi Rez EVF
Superior dynamic range
24 megapixel or greater
Mouth watering 35mm or 40mm f/1.8
Weather resistance
Great ergo
$ < 2K
Totally controllable Exposure Bracketing
14-bit RAW

Nice to have:
Greater than 24megapixel (I'll trade resolution for dynamic range any day)
two slots
tilt screen
phase detect
f/1.4
Electronic shutter at all speeds
Focus bracketing and stacking
Time lapse
Hi-Rez (sensor shift) mode
Fill flash

Doesn't matter:
>120fps no crop 10-bit
film simulation
GPS
accessory battery grip
weight
