You need Epona to do this side quest to upgrade the sword. Caution: You cannot warp to another location when you are having an item that is timed. For example: If your carrying the Eye Drop from the professor in the Lake Hylia and travel to the Summit of the Death Mountain where the Big Goron is residing and his eyes are irritating from the Volcano eruption, and it is a 4 minute time limit, so use Epona to ride from Lake Hylia to the entrance of Kakariko Village, and dismount from Epona and use the rolling technique to speed up a little bit to the trail that leads to Death Mountain, and if you planted the bean at the entrance of Donongo’s Cavern as of young Link, and the adult Link can ride the flying magic bean near the summit of the Death Mountain to stave off time as a shortcut, then defeat a few enemies, such as Skulltulas at the climbing wall that leads to the summit, and give a bottle of eye drop to the Big Goron to make his eye better and about 30 seconds to spare. (Sometimes I did it with more then a minute to spare).

I think the fastest way to get around, even more than rolling, is that sidestep attack Link does. Just from what I've seen in speedruns. Rolling is just the perfect mix of speed and comfort
