This is the best version of this song. This is the one that was played on Album Oriented Rock FM stations. Another great song from this album is The Fountain that they actually use a harpsichord on.

Some other songs are Ballroom Blitz, Fox On The Run, Little Willie, Action, Yesterday's Rain. They had a cult following.

They really didn't fit a certain genre. They have sounds of Styx, ELO, and other progressive bands. They really had different sounds to each song. That's what made a lot of groups popular in the 70's when I was growing up is that they didn't follow the Top 40 type music, they were able to be creative.

I was so excited when I saw the thumbnail for this reaction. Thanks Stephen, a great left field choice! Sweet were a huge Top 20 band in the UK during the 70's. This was at the tail end of their chart heyday, not too much happened for them after this hit.

Their early hits were bubblegum pop (Poppa Joe, Little Willy, Coco, Funny Funny) before latching onto the 'glam-rock' look with outrageous clothes, make-up etc. and a host of great, catchy pop-rock singles such as 'Ballroom Blitz', 'Blockbuster', 'Teenage Rampage', 'Wig-Wam Bam', 'Fox On The Run', 'Action' and this song. They had many hit singles due to their management deal with the Chinn/Chapman songwriting partnership, but really wanted to be known as a hard rock album band with their own songs. The level of success they wanted never really happened, but live they were great and it was a hard rock show. I was lucky enough to see Sweet at the Belfry Club just outside Birmingham in 1973. They played a medley of their hits, but focussed on their self written album tracks and B-sides and they were so good. They were just a quartet at this time, no keyboards, and their idols were The Who. Sweet were huge influences on many up and coming UK bands, particularly Def Leppard who covered Sweet's 'Action' on their album Retro Active.

It would be great to see Nick and Alexia react to a video version of 'Ballroom Blitz'. Then they would understand the full 'glam-rock' experience!!

Back in the mid 70's "Fox On The Run" was my favorite song as a teenager. Love this band. "ARE YOU READY STEVE" AHA!!!

Sweet and The Sweet were the same band. There was a slight name change when they changed their style from the pop/glam rock they did in the early 70s to a hard rock approach in the mid 70s. Their early hits included Little Willy, Hellraiser, and Teenage Rampage. The mid 70s is when the band had their biggest success in America. Ballroom Blitz, Fox On The Run and Action were the most notable tunes circa 1975/1976. As for Love Is Like Oxygen, it was a departure from the harder rock sound the band had been doing for several years. They had been experiencing a bit of a commercial dry spell and decided to experiment. They released the album, Level Headed, in early 1978, and Love Is Like Oxygen was a top 10 hit in the states. Lead singer Brian Connolly left the group about a year later. Only one original member of the band is with us. Guitarist Andy Scott.

Ballroom Blitz and Fox on the Run? Sweet and The Sweet are the same band. They were primarily recognized as a Glam Rock band. The instrumental section in the longer version always reminds me of Tubular Bells.

4:47- It's my favorite thing about this band, Nick..I've bought their " Desolation Blvd." LP and the way they cover such a high range with 4-part harmonies rivaling even Queen was just awesome. Every song on it is a jammer and a half! Big props for running the extended version on this one, guys!

The version of the band that exists in 2024 is still a great live act despite 3 of the originals having passed away. Vocally they remain the best 4 part harmony rock band.

Went to Alpine Valley outdoor theater (Wisconsin) to see Thin Lizzy. They were technically backing up REO Speedwagon but they were really equal billing. Sweet was also another backup band who was supposed to come out before Lizzy. As it turned out Thin Lizzy backed out because Sweet was given the nod over them to play second. We learned this because Thin Lizzy's crew was sitting next to us in the lawn and they told us. We came to see Thin Lizzy (didn't care about the other two bands) so the crew told us to see them in Chicago and they'd bring us backstage if we got there early. We really didn't believe them but decided at the last minute to see them in Chicago. We were late but sure enough, there were the guys we talked to after the show breaking down the equipment. We were kicking ourselves for not getting there early and missed out on the backstage invite. Oh, well. Anyway not to hurt anyone's feelings (I'm just reporting), Sweet got mercilessly booed the entire time they were on stage and loudest when this song came on. They just didn't fit in with the Thin Lizzy/REO crowd at all.
