Congress wants government employees back in the office. OMB released a memo encouraging maximum in person work for all federal agencies. This could mean a decline in teleworking in the near future. People are already dropping off the radar because socializing is too expensive, add remote work and you have a recipe for serious long term social problems.

1. There were local city economies that were hurt but your local economy saw an increase now that you are working from home.
2. If upper management keeps their days from home, then what is the difference?
3. Feeling more productive is not the same as actually being productive, being in the office is an exhaustive process.
4. They don't pay you enough to get an apartment across from your work

I do tech support for the federal government. Been 100% telework since May 2020. So far they have no told us to return to the office.

Politicians business owners buddies are losing money especially around the DC Swamp area that’s why they are pushing the end of the TW. Bureaucracy at its finest

So no one cares about the environment anymore, no one cares about work life balance. No one cares about having to sit in traffic 3 to 4 hours a day.

This will most definitely impede hiring and retention .

Telework is a boon for persons with disabilities or persons who are housebound for medical reasons.

That's not happening, the union won't allow it, it makes no sense for admin series employees to return to the building when they don't have desks and pods setup to work as efficiently at home. All meetings and trainings can be done via teams or zoom anyway. Let them try it, those who are eligible to retire will leave.

it's people's own fault if they make permanent decisions based on a temporary situation.

it's also not the workers job to prop up the economy. that sounds like some soviet command and control logic

Great content Armand. One item you could provide more detail on is “Max Telework Vs Remote” status. I was hired as full time remote employee with my home address as my Work Duty Station. My team is all over the US so I don’t see how they can make us go into an office. However, our other Product Line Management we work with I know is considered Max Telework and they are concerned they will have to go back into the office a few days a week. Something to consider for folks applying to jobs- filter to remote work and make sure it says 100% remote vs “telework available” if you truly want to be full time remote. See you in the next one!

Forcing Government employees back in the office is one thing, but private industries is another. Most private sectors are successfully adapting with Telework.
