What a legend. Singer, songwriter, a man of many talents and wasn't allowed to use much of it on the Monkees show. He matured and lost his "attitude" with age, and became a very kindly, considerate man. He wrote a lot more songs than many people realize. RIP NEZ. We love you. Say hi to Davy and Peter for me please.

Goodnight, sweet prince. You’ll always be remembered by this 62 year old child of the 60’s.

One of the great things about being an admirer of Linda Ronstadt is that she takes you to every nook and cranny of the music world. So fun to hear Michael Nesmith singing his own tune and then seeing what Ms. Ronstadt does with it. I can see why she liked it-really is an anthem to living an independent and free-spirited life. Lucky for us, Ms. Ronstadt had a small dose of ego and a large dose of drive and self-discipline to record and perform music with the best of the best for as long as her voice endured.

He had great comedic timing on the old Monkee's show, as well as musical talent. Their show was just fun. Enjoy the after life.

I know Linda Ronstadt knocked it out of the park, but I really love the raw energy only the songwriter can bring to this fantastic song .. thank you Mr Nesmith

From Scotland. Loved the Linda Ronstadt version but this is so southern and country. Brilliant 😊

Sad to hear of Mike's passing. His post-monkees songwriting was a big influence on my own.

I always thought that the idiom was "can't see the forest THROUGH the trees". I guess I'll get some whiteout.

Thank you to my favorite Monkee, with the wool hat and the Elvis sideburns. You were a significant part of the soundtrack of my youth. Rest in Peace.

Couldn't he just get to you, though? I mean, often and again, he'd sing something and you go, 'Oh, crikey, that's me, I know what you're saying'. And he always did it with such heart. Will never tire of listening to his heartfelt music.

If this song, recorded by Ronstadt, had been his only contribution, he would have led a successful life. RIP

What a bright shiny star for many generations. This has saddened me more than I would have ever realized. 😪

I didn't know Michael wrote this song back in the 70's. Only heard Linda's version. But it was a staple for me when I went to Karaoke in the 90's and beyond. That's when I think I found out he wrote it. He wrote the best songs, in the Monkees and outside of them. RIP Michael.

Good to hear Mike Nesmith sing the wonderful song which of course helped Launch Linda Ronstadt.
We have lost a truly great musician
Who stood up for what he believed.

I was SUPER into the Monkees in the mid to late 80s. I wasn't born yet when they first hit. Anyway, I knew of this song my whole life, but only found out Mike wrote after hearing of his passing. Sad. Mike, from one Texan to another, thank you for the good music and laughs on the show. You got to do what you loved in this life. Not many get to do that.

I saw the Monkees when I was in fifth grade, not that I could hear anything for the screaming. RIP, Michael.

The loss of each Monkee has been like an icicle to the heart.
