A marathon 8-hour session saw history made as the Lok Sabha passed the Women's Reservation Bill, the first Bill in the new Parliament building. In all 454 members voted in its favour. 2 were opposed to it. The special session of the Indian Parliament created history on September 20, 2023, by passing a Bill, which had been pending for over 25 years. The bill termed 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam' reserves one-third of seats in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies for women. The two MPs who opposed the bill were from AIMIM. Party chief Asaduddin Owaisi and Imtiaz Jaleel voted against it. AIMIM opposed the bill, contending that it would exclusively benefit "savarna women." They raised the question of why there is no allocation for OBC and Muslim women, who have even lower representation in Parliament.
