There was a time when I thought Malawian music does not exist. Most of our artists copy styles from abroad. But now every time I come across "real" Malawian music, within the first 5 seconds I am able to recognize it. The recipe for Real Malawian Music is our traditional rhythms. This songs has the beat that basically signifies Malawian traditional dances and rhythms. This is attested to by the fact that Nyau, Beni, Malipenga/Honala dancers are all able to dance to the tune.

I think now more than ever, more and more local artists are beginning to tap into that resource that was used by only a few in the past. I love what this generation of artists is doing.
