Is this the dripper that has finally won her over? The ODZ looks incredible, but can it brew too? Lets dive in and take a closer look at the ODZ dripper, with a little sidebar on how to get your partner "into" coffee stuff.

Two Recipes I used!

1 - My Basic 5 Pour - Slightly modified from James Hoffmans Recipe below

16g ground coffee, water heated to 201F
[0:00] - Bloom with 50g water
[0:50] - 50ml pour over 10 Seconds (100ml Total)
[1:00] - Pause 10 seconds
[1:10] - 50ml pour over 10 Seconds (150ml Total)
[1:20] - Pause 10 seconds
[1:30] - 50ml pour over 10 Seconds (200ml Total)
[1:40] - Pause 10 seconds
[1:50] - 50ml pour over 10 Seconds (250ml Total)
[2:20-2:45] - Final Draw down of brew.
If the pours are flowing extremely fast, just lengthen out the pauses between pours to try and hit the final total brew time and go finer on your grind next time.

2 - ODZ Suggested Bright and Fruity Brew
15g ground coffee, very fine, water heated to 201F
[0:00] - Bloom with 35g water
[0:25] - Pour 90g water (125g total)
[0:45] - Pour 50g water (175g total)
[1:00] - Pour 50 G Water (225g total)
[1:30] Final draw down of brew.

Me and my girlfriend are really looking forward to the "how to live with a coffee geek" video. Just in this video you gave voice to some of the compromises we have managed. Looking forward to both of your prospectives.

My wife doesn’t really drink coffee but she still enjoys hearing about everything I love about it - and it goes the same for my views of her hobbies and interests too. It’s healthy and normal to enjoy different things together. As for gear and even sponsorships, it’s always important to talk about it first because this living space we have is shared and this just honours her. It’s not asking for permission, more so talking to your co-CEO to reach joint agreements.

Great conversation on bringing the uninitiated to the coffee world. Also beautiful dripper. ❤

Yes!!!! The same thing happened to me, where before my stagg ekg arrived I was feeling death stares but once it was on the counter it looked beautiful!!! The acceptance came in later as we found out having two different kettles were wayy too convenient and useful in different scenarios.

I'm hoping someday in the future the meticulous machine will also get accepted though my hopes are not too high for that one.

Been trying to convince my wife for over a year now that an electric espresso grinder is a good investment… but here I am still getting a workout with a hand grinder every morning 😅

I'm just so impressed with your video production quality. It's just top notch. Also, where can I find that bean dosing cup you used @5:58? I absolutely love that look/design!

Just bought a Mazzer Philos. It arrived and I set it up on the kitchen counter. I think I should stay single for another while.

My personal opinion in buying coffee gear in a relationship: I think you should have your own personal budget and space. As others have already mentioned, in the long run it's not even an expensive hobby. It may feel expensive because you pay big amounts of money from time to time. This does mostly mean that you'll be brewing coffee at home and not paying a high price for coffee at a local business. I don't consume soda or wine, and I prefer inviting friends over instead of going to a bar. That alone saves me so much money. Yet, there are still plenty of people that would call me crazy for having a Philos on my counter.

People can be such hypocrites.

Interesting that their South Korean partner is selling their basic design for ₩98, 000 (around $75 USD), which I also saw at a Singaporean retailer. While the dripper is undeniably beautiful, it strikes me more as a functional art piece than something optimized for coffee brewing. For that reason, I'd lean towards the Varia Flo, if I want another dripper in my collection. It's more affordable, and its design, while complex, seems more focused on functionality and optimal coffee extraction.

That dripper looks absolutely beautiful! Now I would like to know how much difference in the brew time compared to V60 and Origami with the same recipe using conical filters.

Exactly like the Brazilian dripper called Koar (which exists since 2015, I guess)

Please, do the video on the Capillary action. I never understood correctly, why there needs to be a water bypass. :)

Justin hi, question please: I have a small bistro up in a mountain, with a relatively small solar setup. I am looking for the most energy efficient setup, and my searching has led me to consider induction or thermocoil units .If I sell around 30 espresso’s per day, would the Ascaso Steel DuoV2 be sufficient?

No issues with whatever it’s painted with? What sort of paint is used? Guaranteed no lead or a proper way to confirm?

I definitely have a coffee hobby, fortunately, my wife and I met late in life, so we have his, hers, and ours, which means we have greater autonomy for our hobbies. Still need to negotiate kitchen space, but since I only do pour-over, it's not too challenging. Now I'm just trying to figure out how to get my hands on the ODZ dripper... squeaky.coffee only has solid color ones, which after seeing the ones at SCA and on your video, looks too plain.

As a young married guy who loves tinkering with my coffee from the local roaster I have a almost worst situation where my wife has hated coffee her whole life. She loves tea but she will never even consider drinking coffee and as a result she thinks my coffee hobby is ridiculous
