Hi Mikey. I'd like to point out that 1:2.35 aspect ratio was used by Cinemascope around the 70s. The modern film look is 2.39 which is actually averaged to 2.4. That is because anamorphic lenses are not used as much today, and the digital intermediate just gets cropped in post from 1.77. Also when working with HD you get a very nice round number for the height of the picture. If an anamorphic lens was used, then a specific pixel aspect ratio compensation will be used for the digital intermediate, but it will be rendered 1:1 pixel aspect in a standard format. Adding letterboxes into a footage it is highly not recommended because it carries a lot of dead information into the filesize and also because people generally when watching something will have their own tv or monitor presets which will render the blackness of the letterboxes towards a dark gray, which is horrible. So the best way to approach aspect ratio is simply crop :). Cheers.

Or you could just set your composition to have an aspect ratio 2.35/2.39/2.4:1.
