Dear History Boy
I am a veteran of the Blackhorse, the 11th Armoured Cavalry Regiment, Fulda Gap, OP Alpha, 1984-1989. I saw the end of the Cold War up close. You do good work to honour all of us who served in the cavalry. Think about doing something to highlight the Blackhorse. Our song is called Allons and we have a proud history.

I heard this tune when I was a child. It took 50 odd years for me to find out what the tune was called. All I could remember was it was when the cavalry came

Garyowen is spelled with two 'r'as in 2 r's, ergo "Garryowen". Public school education, eh.

A Cavalry song. There are some military songs that reach to my heart. This is one of them.

The minutemen were NOT playing this when they were bleeding out redcoats, this is a historical fact. This is a British war song.

7th Cavalry wasn’t formed until after the Civil War. The 7th Cavalry was involved with the Native American War out west and was involved with one of the biggest battle in Montana called battle of Little Bighorn also known as Custers last stand and giving a hill a name called Reno’s Hill.
