Diffused 5mm Slow Fade Flashing RGB LED

These are very interesting 5mm diffused RGB LEDs - instead of having 4 pins to control 3 LEDs, they have only two leads - power and ground. When powered, the LEDs perform a slow fade through the rainbow, from red to orange to yellow, etc till they get back to red. See the video below for the timing and look. There is no way to change the 'program' or rate, its burned into a little chip that is inside the LED itself. 1) You should have this link on the product listing instead of the flash video that you currently have posted. I had to search for this demo on YouTube only to realize it was on an Adafruit account. 2) I wish you guys sold this in 3mm.

i would love to see this with something like a 1 wire interface for setting the color, could save some real time and give some awesome effects in large led displays.

Depends on the type of LED and how it's controlled. In all likelihood the easiest way to do what you're looking for is to completely take out the existing electronics and LED's and put in exactly what you want.

Assuming the rate cannot be controlled and several diods from the same manufacturer can (and will) be out of sync, what is the use case for the flashing LEDs?

A Dollar Tree in my neighborhood had these boxes that took up 2 AA batteries to be used as a base for a chunk of crystal or diffused glass statue. It contained 3 separate LEDs and cycled through all colors within 30 sec.
However, I am looking for a way to stretch this cycle by 10 times. Can it be done? If so, do you know where to get the schematics? Simplest way.. Thanks.
