Interesting but Couldn't you get lead poisoning by rubbing the lead into your fingers?

Pretty neat. I’ve dug my coppers our of clay along the river. They come out like bright copper, but are really wore from the clay.

I swore he was going to use the eraser on the pencil. I mean if you want to clean it those things work suprisingly well. its an abrasive so it wont leave the coin untouched but it works better than alot of the acid combos people will suggest

Can this method work on all coppers coins that’s a pretty worn but you can see a small silhouette and what did bring out things that we couldn’t see?
Not that we get a lot of coppers here in Louisiana I guess we’re more prone with the Spanish silver

Is this video about how to clean the coins, or how to make them even more dirty?

I will try this on some of my wheaties but I am not sure for my older coppers. I'm concerned the graphite would wear away the details on the older ccoppers. Just my viewpoint.

Word to the wise….be careful doing this . I did it to a 1837 large cent and now you can’t see the date!!

I realize this is an older video, but I suspect if you had any truly valuable coins and did this prior to submitting them for grading, they'd come back as cleaned/details, which would utterly destroy whatever value they had. If it's just worth $2 even in great condition, no harm no foul, but had you done this to a coin with a hypothetical value of $20, 000, you would have turned it into a $2 coin. At least I'm speculating, I'd love to be proven wrong. I don't really collect copper, except in sealed mint sets (regular and proof), though I'm not even buying most of those anymore and haven't for some time.

Have you, the OP, or anyone for that matter, sent coins "cleaned" in this manner in for grading and authentication?

And not one person figured that out at 3:24 he switches the coin

Use tamarind and salt. It works. I've tried.
