Morgan Freeman voice: "And as it turned out, people did NOT listen to science"

His mouth physically limits the enormous amount of ideas he's trying to drop on Stephen and I loved every second of it

6 months later, I think it’s safe to say: we did not listen to science.

Spoiler alert one month later: the US failed miserably.

I find it so adorable how genuinely excited he gets when talking about science. It's such a pure, child-like joy that he gets from his work. <3

Stephen: “If this giant meteorite isn’t going to hit us, why am I hearing about it?”

Neal: “It’s called click-bait.”

I bet if Dr. Tyson had been my physics teacher in school, I would have taken an astrophysics major in college.

That must be what it's like to "Love your job" and "find your calling".

"And how do you know this?"
"Be-cause we have physics..."

I love it whenever Dr Tyson's voice switches into "storytelling mode". I could listen to that man for hours on end and never get bored or tired.

"Will people listen to scientists?" The question I've been asking for decades in this country. Reporting from researchers invariably get drowned out by corporate disinformation, and inevitably public safety suffers - whether it's from Coroavirus or climate change. If a society wants to survive it shouldn't dismiss what scientists report.

"We go to the Moon to explore the Moon, and we turn around and discover Earth for the first time..." "... You see it as not the social studies classroom globe showed you; There were no color coded countries on it. All you saw was blue oceans and dry land and clouds. At that moment everyone changed..." ..."A cosmic perspective can descend upon you in such a way you are realigned with your own survival and the survival of others in such a way maybe you do something about it."

I wish more people thought from this perspective. The world would be a much better place.

Dr. Tyson puts more energy and passion into his discussions about science and the cosmos than most Southern preachers do giving a sermon.
I expected people in the audience to start yelling "Hallelujah! Preach It!!!"

I took Astronomy 101 from him, while he was a PhD candidate, at UT in the early 80s before the school canceled the doctorate program. Best class ever!

The last bit about him running was just something to say to conclude the interview. But just think about that for a second.
If his intellect and empathy for this planet and humans is not something you want in the WH, then what are we doing?
