Thanos had started on his quest long before Odin was weak. and Odin was going to pass down his power to Thor. Thanos had the mind stone whic gave him sight beyond sight just like Hawlk Eye and letting Thanos konw what he needed too complete his task. Odin knew where all the stones were. But he would not scarifice his daughter the one he loved the most to get the soul stone. That's why Thanos saved Loki in Thor 1 to scout earth for the space stone. Ronin for the power stone. Gamora the soul stone. Olny with in a few years of the convergence to get the reality stone. How did Thanos know where to look at all for the stones or where to send Gamora, Loki some how back tracked Odin's quest for the stones seeing he had a fake glove that could make himself ruler of Assgaurd.
