This is probably Logic, being a crappy software, i went from the Mac Mini (late 2012) 16gb ram i7, to the Mac Studio m1 Max 32gb ram, installed Ableton Live 11 and the VSTs, everything was so smooth and fast from day 1, i couldn't believe i could render a 8 mins track in 5 seconds or less, totally crazy! Love this Mac, i hope Apple will keep up with updates for a long time (usually 8 to 10 years)

Would doing a “system restore” type install be worse? I’ll be purchasing Apple silicon later this year and currently have a 2015 mid year MacBook Pro 2TB HD, (my upgrade) 16GB ram and the 8gb vid card. I’m waiting to see how they configure the M3 chip and/or will get a 16” MacBook Pro decked out. Thanks for the information about migration assistant. I didn’t even think about the fact that all the old stuff is Intel based so yeah that would cause issues for sure. I’m working OT to get a new computer so I want it snappy!!

My Gf just got a M1 MB Air...
It's freaking awesome.
I myself however have always tended to stick with (and build) later (3rd-4th) gen intel based quad i7 Win 10 PCs just out of cost reasons for audio.
I recently however just came across a top order option spec (i7 4770, NVMe SSD, GT 750M) 2013 21.5" iMac for IKUN...
$50!!
So I am now preparing to migrate to MacOS albeit late to the party.
My uncle who runs a legit studio in Georgia BTW just went from a maxed out trash can Mac Pro to an M1 Ultra Studio, and
he legit experienced the exact same issues as you described.
Personally? I've always gotten by ok with the very LEAST "latest & greatest" tech for audio. It's my newfound desire to edit at least viable 1080 YT video content that's always been a bit of a setback personally.
That said? Once I pull the trigger to fully gut and upgrade this lil' $50 2013 iMac? I think I'll be gravy for at least a year or so before making the real investment to a silicon Mac. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Bro my 2012 Mac Pro (garbage can version) works better for making music than the Mac Studio Ultra. It's making ZERO sense. Did a 100% fresh install too. Never had so many issues In my life. Insane regret >.<
