A few questions here about mirror neurons and Autism:
It is known so far:
. MRI imaging shows that - unlike in NT subjects - in people with ASD, the areas of the brain responsible for MNS did not fire up when they were asked to imitate the facial expressions they saw.
. MN activation is experience dependent. If the observer is not familiar with the action/emotion observed, there is not activation in the Mirror Neuron System
.We also know that autistic brain processes, maybe even ‘wiring’ is different, causing ASD people to experience the world differently from Neuro-typical people.
. people with Asperger’s often report feeling at ease around their aspie peers, as if they know what to expect;

Finally the question: would it be possible to speculate that the correct study for MN activation in ASD subjects would have to be measured while exposing them to emotional processes they are familiar with (ei. Other people in the Spectrum)?
