Motorhomes under 6m - WOULD YOU BUY ONE?

One of the questions I'm often asked is what size motorhome is best?
There's no right answer to this. A family of 4 will have vastly different requirements to a couple, or a solo vanlifer.
But, if I were ever to change my motorhome, it would be to go smaller. So, after asking the question on Instagram, I decided to set out on a challenge- what's the BEST sub-6m motorhome available at the show... and would I want to live in it full-time?
I discarded several vans, but actually found a few I really like. Here are 7 of the best motorhomes under 6m (and all under £70,000 brand new!)

ABOUT WANDERING BIRD

In 2018, I quit my job as an air traffic controller to travel in a van. That's adulting, right?
Since then, I've spent most of my time living in a motorhome, touring the UK and Europe, sometimes with my husband, sometimes with my daughter and sometimes enjoying solo female vanlife (well, with my dog, Mac!)

Wandering Bird was created to help motorhomers and campervanners make the most of their time on the road.
We share weekly tips, tricks and reviews to encourage and inspire your next adventure, whether you're a complete motorhoming beginner, or a more experienced owner looking for new ideas or places to visit.

We had the 6m Benimar Tessoro 481 with drop down bed. Set off for a 3 month tour of Spain and got home after 2.5 years travelling all over Europe and Morocco. 2 adults and a dog, sometimes one of our adult children and up to the job all the time.

American Manufacturers would never think of building a vehicle like this. It makes too much sense.

The Chausson does have a shower. The back wall hinges right around, and the shower unit is fixed to that.
I have the same design on my Sunlight T60. It works really well

I like the first one best with the fixed bed. With mobility problems I can’t be putting my bed up and down every day.

Kat,
Just love your sweet and simple overview of these as most others go into tooo much detail! Keep ‘em coming cheers Chris “The Aussie living in the the Netherlands “🇦🇺🍾

Only the Chausson ticks my boxes. Fixed bed and 4 belted seats. I'm not keen on the grill in the living space, I would prefer an oven/grill in the kitchen.

Subscribed to your channel for the "funky chicken" test and no nook&cranny left unchecked, discussed, fiddled with-permitted or not-.... Great job, neatly done

I just took delivery of the chausson s514 and it does off course have a shower . Just fold the wall back and boom 💥 shower away with plenty of room .

This is my 4th 6m van last year it was cool x550 chuasson. I toured Europe for 3 months and I think this 514 with its mega storage and fall into fixed bed is better suited for long term use . Some of the vans you showed are very comfortable but no real amount of storage and make up beds so better for short trips .
I am going to winter alps and summer Spain 🇪🇸 and Morrocco so I have AC fitted and and under the vehicle a generator to power it and the other electrics independently… last year I came home in June from the continent as it was too warm but this year I can stay longer

Love your reviews, especially the funky chicken test !!! The F62 does also have the option of a drop down bed. We were considering an F60 but have gone instead for an Elddis CV20. We watch Little Big Van Adventures, who had the F60 but have now swapped it for a larger motorhome.

Kate,
I understand your confusion on the F60 & F62, when viewing these at a dealer, I rejected them because of the dropdown bed (I am 6ft 4")
The difference is basically the kitchen & bathroom layout, the lounge area is the same but options are available (as I found out on the Auto Trail website).
The F62 you viewed is the "base" (cheapest) lounge layout, 2 off long seats that pull out to make a double.
The F60 you viewed has the optional half-dinette (giving the 2 extra seatbelts and more complex bed making) and the optional dropdown bed (potentially giving 4 berths at a push).
Dealers seem to default to include the dropdown bed in their "standard" spec.
Gone for F60 with base lounge area (gives more headroom, light, storage, payload)

We started off with the Accordo 105. Loved that van and still do but we needed more garage space so changed to a Rapido 696f

Kate, Thank you for the tour, I was impressed with the rear bedand garage. The rear bed suits us old farts and the garage is also very useful. I have been looking at second hand units but getting them in N. Ireland is a No No. Over here the prices are controlled by the big operators.

6m Campervans and Motorhomes have been ideal for us. Specifically because we live on the Isle if Wight and get “car” rate fares on the ferries if not more than 6m’s

I like the first and the last one cos of the storage.

I have the 6m Accordo 105 Prestige that you showed... identical.
Takes literally 40 seconds to pull the bed together. I love end bathrooms. The shower doubles as storage for throws/bedding etc.
Love love love it. Ideal for me and my 2 doggies ♡

Great reviews but why can't a manufacturer make a perfect motorhome for 2 Berth touring to fit Me 6'4" 120kg, plus wife 5'10 90 kg in a rear transverse bedroom over a garage, duel garage doors for touring Europe and the UK. Without 2 forward facing seats we never use since our dog died. Result bigger bathroom and a bigger garage for leisure batteries and LPG off grid generator. We don't need a microwave when camping. Slow cookers 150w are brilliant 12 months a year.
