Bomsori – Bacewicz: Oberek No. 1 (Live from Yellow Lounge, 2021)

Violinist Bomsori returns to our Musical Moments series with a breathtaking performance of 20th-century Polish composer Grażyna Bacewicz’s exhilarating Oberek No.1. The oberek is a whirling Polish folk dance, whose agility and rapid tempo are emphasised in this fiery stylisation by Bacewicz, who was herself a virtuoso violinist. Sophia Muñoz brings intense vitality to the rhythmic intricacies of the piano accompaniment, while Bomsori conquers the double and triple stops, harmonics, pizzicato chords and myriad other technical challenges of the violin line with seemingly effortless dexterity as well as exceptional musicality.
