The container ship Zim Kingston was traveling from Busan, South Korea to Vancouver, BC, Canada. The ship lost approximately 40 containers in rough seas off the coast of Vancouver Island, BC. While traveling through the Strait of Juan de Fuca, some of the shipping containers caught fire. The ship is anchored in these photos and videos. The videos photos are taken from the Victoria waterfront, near Beacon Hill Park and Clover Point, using a Canon EOS 70D.

The Canadian Coast Guard posted this around 10:AM (PST) on Sunday October 24:
"Canadian Coast Guard tSo62nso0r4ch1 ·
CCGLive: Overnight the tug Seaspan Raven has cooled the hull of the M/V Zim Kingston by spraying the hull with cold water. Due to the nature of chemicals onboard the container ship, applying water directly to the fire is not an option.
The Atlantic Raven has replaced the CCGS Captain Goddard M.S.M. and the CCGS Cape Calvert is also monitoring. The Emergency Zone around the ship has been increased to 2 NM and a Unified Command is being stood up to manage the Incident Command Post."

Canadian Coast Guard October 26: "Six firefighting/salvage experts from Resolve Marine were able to board the M/V Zim Kingston last night and we transferred seven crew members from the ship back to the Zim Kingston as well. The Salvage Master and team are assessing the situation today and estimate it may take several days to fully suppress the smoldering and any fires inside the containers. From the Environmental Unit in Incident Command, air monitoring readings taken yesterday during the storm at 32 sites between Esquimalt Lagoon and along Dallas Road, were all below detection limits."

Canadian Coast Guard ~11:30 AM Wednesday October 27, 2021: "Late yesterday, with the fire under control, the ship’s crew was finally able to safely access the container bays on the M/V Zim Kingston. There are close to 2, 000 containers on board, 1000 on deck. Based on yesterday’s count the ship owner now believes that 106 containers fell overboard, not 40 as originally estimated via aircraft observation shortly after the incident.

The number of containers with hazardous goods – two - has NOT changed. Contents of other containers overboard include toys, clothing, industrial and automotive parts and furniture. Unified Command expects that some of the containers have sunk and the Environmental Unit will assess for potential impacts. No containers or debris have been reported on shore, however the National Aerial Surveillance Program (NASP) and our helicopters will be searching today, depending on weather."
