For those who don't know, Myiasis is when maggots are eating your flesh from the inside out. It's rare but can be caused by ticks, flies, and mosquitoes. Yes even houseflies. It's especially likely in tropical areas or if your an outdoorsy person prone to open wounds. It might often look like a regular insect bite, or a pimple, (provided it's not already a deep wound) and evolve into a much larger, swollen area with a small opening in the middle. It comes with itchiness, random occasional sharp pains, and an unsettling sensation of movement occurring in the infected area.

It's also worth mentioning the "tail" is actually a breathing siphon used like a snorkel since they're often found in unoxygenated stagnant water

I feel like this is probably a good phrase for most things. If it's not bothering you, don't kill them. But if it's actively causing you or things you own harm, they gotta go.

The most common rat tail larva is the dung bee larva (Eristalis tenax). This lives in stagnant, oxygen-poor water with a high organic substance content. It is fairly tolerant of pollution and can live in lagoons and septic tanks.
