Thank you Rachel for the great tips on sewing poppies. Sewing them in rows, what a good idea. I am sure l weed out my little seedling. So l am going to try that idea with other things as well. 👏😁🦋🐝

Cant wait to get mine going. I live in Oklahoma where it gets oppressively hot and humid in summer (had a heat index of 120F degrees last year) so I'm starting them as early as possible. Tried some fall sowing last October but I only have what I think are a few rosettes so far this year. Now I'm working on the soil in several other places.

At the 'other house', I always had orange and yellow Californian Poppies naturalised in the front garden. I just used to scatter the seeds on the gravel beds when rain was due - this washed the seeds down where they could geminate. Some years they would 'self-seed' and some years, they even survived the Winter and carried on blooming the following year. I may try and get them going again here in the new place.

Good video about planting poppy seeds. I would imagine that combining oriental poppies (or even just annual poppies) with peonies in a section of border would be amazing, they both flower at roughly the same time of year and have very big flowers.

Thank you 🙏. Have you ever tilled an area and then plantes there ?
That's my plan this year, I've never grown them before and I want to put a poppy patch in an area that has been a tall grassland for years and years. I am not sure how it will work but I am going to do it and see.

I inadvertently sowed them in March, guess I should've realized I would have. I took a couple of wildflower seedpacks and put them in propagators, in order to plant them as plug plants directly into grass. Only last month I realized what all the plants are when I downloaded an app for identifying plants. My wildflower/flower area is complete now and everything is planted, some are already flowering or in the case of Phacelia, about to.

I like to plant annual poppies and cornflowers (Centaurea) in the early fall, so that the plants are about three or four inches across when winter sets in. The plants will survive through the winter and get an early start to bloom early next year. Be sure to plant again in spring, because the plants from last fall will reach their peak, go to seed, and die in early summer, so you want a second crop to replace them for late summer and fall bloom.

Do they self propagate from their seeds like the wild ones do or are they infertile ? Thanks 🙏❤️

All the vids make it seem so simple but I swear poppies just don't want to make it easy lol. I've tried a few different times with no success. One year they made it halfway were all about a foot tall, and looked ok one night then next day I went to check and every single one died for no apparent reason smh. This year I went all out and bought like 30 seed packs. I put them in different areas, used different methods to sew, different times, different soil types and varying mixes I hope they work this time.
