What is Ar (Relative Atomic Mass)

Показать описание
Ar is some peoples' symbol for the *relative* mass of an atom. This is the same as the mass on the periodic table (which has units of amu) but the word RELATIVE is important because it is as compared to atoms of Carbon-12 ... which is a specific isotope of carbon containing 6 protons and 6 neutrons. Chemists have simply DEFINED that atoms like that weigh exactly 12.000000000 amu, and all of the other atomic masses are based on that.
