Should Celtic Sign Kieran Tierney? | Celtic Transfer Update

Reports have linked Kieran Tierney with a sensational return to Celtic this January after it was confirmed Arsenal will not take up the option of the extra year in his contract.

The left-back departed Celtic in 2019 for a club record £25m deal, but in recent years he has been plagued by injuries. Today, we look at Kieran's injury record and discuss whether Celtic would view it as a risk worth taking to bring him back to the club.

We also look at the future of Alexandro Bernabei, who has been linked with a permanent move away from Celtic following his successful loan move to Internacional in Brazil.

Kieran Tierney would make a massive difference to Celtic especially in Europe. We can manage his fitness, he need not play every game. Large signing on fee plus a Celtic top level salary would bring him home. Get it done👍

Why not take him on loan for 6 months in Jan and see how he holds up first before taking the gamble on a permanent contract

This smells like a disaster in the making. I don't believe there will be a lot of clubs vying for him, because he's absolutely prone to, not just injuries, but bad injuries. £40 grand a week for a player who we get half a season out of AT BEST? Sorry, not for this supporter 🇮🇪

A back 5 of Kasper, AJ, CCV, Trusty and can't ever remember a defence potentially that solid

I was against a KT return, but given he'd be a free agent, definitely take a wage cut, he wants to be here AND Brendan wants him back.. I'm kinda warming to the idea.

If he's managed properly, even if he only plays a percentage of games, he will be a real asset, especially in Europe. Sign up Valle too as an understudy.
Both LBs will get plenty of game time as well.

If it’s possible which I think it probably is. and the medical team think it’s a goer then hell yeah, let’s take the gamble …

Tierney is a very versatile player, given the injury concerns I'd be more inclined to play him at CB alongside CCV, imagine how solid a pairing both would be together, there would then be far less risk of injury as opposed to him running up and down the pitch at LB where he would be more susceptible to muscle tears etc

If we are not having top pay a huge fee to get Tierney back it can cover his salary costs. Great signing if we can pull it off.

Other players have gone to Arsenal with good injury records only to find themselves being regularly injured, Thomas Partey for example. I suspect Tierney will not have the same injury record he had at Arsenal if he makes the move back home.

60 % of top class in my opinion is better than 100% of mediocrity surely we could manage his health like that

So what length of contract would you give him ? he would be looking for 4 years if he came back. Sign him on a one year, with a years option.

Definitely take him back on loan until the end of the season.
Then offer a contract that includes a pay as you play deal or something along those lines.
He’s definitely injured far too frequently to be offered a long term contract.
If it suits both parties then it’s worth the gamble as on his day he’s light years ahead of what we have.
Still can’t believe we haven’t replaced him to be honest, it’s been a weakness in our team for years now.
Just want to add that your content is first class Paul and I look forward to watching from Brisbane. HH
