THANK YOU so much for uploading.  I love this song so much since I heard it in "Deadwood" in the episode where Hostetler (a admirable black man making his way in the town) kills himself, and where Dan Dority and Captain Turner fight to the death in the streets.  This song is so great, no instruments, no guitar, no bass, no effects, just a great singing voice.

I had discovered the Lomax recordings through Woody Guthrie but it wasn't until I saw the episode of Deadwood that I discovered this particular songs. I had to share it. Great great show and soundtrack.

I'm a song writer and I rap and this is rap whether anyone else recognizes it as that. He's also using comedy much like a rapper named Mystikal. It's a different age no doubt but this is some of the origin of rap music.
