In a note at the end of the manga, it was confirmed that he kept his promise and killed her but got killed by police sooner or later afterward

Love this anime, yeah it’s a psychological thriller but to me it’s a twisted love story with 2 people who have never been loved and don’t know what love is, if you watch it from that point of view it’s sad. I think they survived and are together trying to find their way.

There was a comic someone wrote where they ended up falling, both survived, and ran from police. Zack was still injured so they took shelter in an old church. An old man found them and Zack didn't trust him at first but he gave them food and water and tried to teach them how to live like normal people. Zack and Rachel both started getting attached and Ray was smiling more and Zack was leaving his k!ll!ng tendencies behind. Ray cried because Zack wouldn't k!ll her but in the end he just couldn't because he was so attached to her. The old man got hurt and they were both heart broken but got him to a hospital. They lived on their own in random abandoned buildings, all while doing random jobs to make money. Ray taught Zack to read and write and eventually they found the old man's cabin and he took them in. In my book... that's how it really ends.

I Honestly never saw the scene as sad. But as beautiful they made a promise, a vow to each other. It was an inevitable ending. I cried of course but not how sad it was but how beautiful the scene truly was.

despite his interesting use of language this anime like a few other’s shows that not everyone is bad or truly evil and it really makes you think what if the bad people in our world given the chance could of ended up being different and it also shows that the thing that makes people bad or turn into killers is not there fault but its the fault of the people around them and there parents who failed them and i think it’s interesting to think about what could of been even one of the world’s most evil people could of ended up being something great if the people around him and society at large had not failed him and then maybe there would not of been a world war 2

Guys there are many theories about the ending of this beautiful Anime, but
L theory which i liked the most is that-
The pope represents God and holy judgment, allowed Zack to bring Rachel out of the building, which means "God forgave these two".
But the other one which i think could be true was that-
Rachel was hallucinating in the end and killed herself....
Or
The blood on the window was zack's blood and they both safely escaped from the
