There has to be more to taking the Lord's name in vain than saying his name in a rude way.

My art teacher used to literally make me apologize publicly for saying this. Meanwhile she and math teacher were having an affair. You can’t make this stuff up if you tried

Funny how "taking the Lord's name in vain" doesn't apply to publicly branding yourself as follower of Jesus for the sake of clout and voter appeal..

It's kinda funny in a small way, that a omnipresent being would be offended if an ant cursed them out

No usage of the word "God" can be considered "taking the Lord's name in vain", because "God" isn't his name.

John Hagee: "Cursing is foolish!!"
Jesus: "goddamn this fig tree for not giving me shade"

On TV you could say "God" and "Damn" but never "Goddamn"

"God damn" and "Jesus Christ" have worked their way so well into my vocabulary, that I consistently offend God without even trying.

Tell people that the name of god heals, then be surprised that the name of god is the first thing they say when they get hurt...

This just reminds me of my conservative Evangelical sister being able to keep her silence when I say ‘fuck’, but not when I say ‘goddamn’.

After i deconstructed, i realized focusing on swear words was often a way ignore the main idea of what somewhat was saying, especially if they weren't Christian. The other half of that, is i realized the people who spoke the most vile of others rarely used curse words. just because someone doesn't curse, doesn't mean they are kind or compassionate
Edit: spelling

The language control of these churches is seriously insane. On a side note good on that father for standing up for his son.

Them getting butthurt by OMG made me think "what if the person is shortening Oh My Goodness, in order to convey the same meaning, but preserve that commandment?"

Someone: Don't use the name of the Lord in vain
Me: what's the name?
Someone: God
Me: which god?
Someone: you know, God. Our Lord, God.
Me: that's not a name.

Remember hearing how this is somehow a really unforgivable sin, and just thought “Even god cares about reputation. Funny”.

The thing is, we don't say God's name, we haven't been saying it for so long that we don't know how to pronounce correctly as people did in ancient times.

God told me that my usage of his name was okay so does that cancel out me using his name in vain?

As someone who is not on speaking terms with my family because they can't handle my lack of belief, I just want to say I feel you, man. Hang in there, and good on you for standing with your sister.

Trevor, mad props on having the ability to sit through all these sermons without completely losing your mind. These "men of God" drive me fucking irate until your lovely voice comes back on to calm me down.

My personal favorite comeback to "god doesn't make mistakes" is "your right, he doesn't. But rather he gives people tests to prove they're a good person. Are you successful in the test by accepting how god made some people. Or are you the one saying he messed up and that you know better"
