What I find facinating is how the hoplites developed in the first place. The discipline needed to maintain ranks in such formation must have beeb brutal. They had to train constantly and their officer corps true professionals.

That first helmet may be the coolest helm I’ve ever seen

Maybe its obvious but the butt spike could be stuck into ground to carry the weight of calvary charges

Surprisingly, the primary weapon of the Hoplite wasn't the spear or the sword. It was his shield!A hoplite can fight in Phalanx formation even when his spear or sword is broken. However, he cannot fight in Phalanx formation when his shield is broken. It is advised to collecting data from the ancient authors' writings rather than relying on modern theorists who make assumptions based on games like Rome total was..

So modern perception is that a sheild isn't a weapon. So with that in mind then yes, the Dori was the main weapon. However the soldier isn't a doriite is it? No they are named after the hoplon sheild because that was the primary weapon.

You ever heard of Hoplians? Or is it spelled Hopleans … spartan slaves, from what I heard.
