The year is 841 – King Harol is dead. As word of his death echoes throughout the kingdom, the crown passes to his arrogant, yet untested son Magnus.

Even worse, the Pestilence, an unholy plague not seen for a thousand years, has returned. It sweeps across the land, corrupting everything and everyone it touches. Madrigal Seline, a ruthlessly ambitious figure in the church, sees the Pestilence as a chance to prove herself in the eyes of her god.

These forces converge on the backwater Isola Sacra, where rebel groups and the provincial government fight for control amid the isle’s crumbling ruins.

You are a Cerim – a member of a group of mystical holy warriors imbued with remarkable powers and sworn to defeat the Pestilence at any cost. But the task will prove increasingly challenging as you become entangled in the people’s plight and the vast political struggle of this downtrodden land. The main thing i took away from watching Cowboy play:

NRFTW rewards Parrying + Blocking. During the dev showcase, they stated how the combat drew inspiration from dark souls and fighting games and it shows. The devs want the players to understand attack patterns, pacing, and not resort to hack and slash tactics.



Besides stamina management, there's startup + recovery frames that's impacted based on your weight and weapon (greatsword deals chunky damage but the recovery frames after an attack sequence is long, which makes sense).

While you're not hard locked into a "class" it's obvious that sooner or later you're going to distribute stat points to take advantage of certain weapons.

If you want to go at it like Guts from Berserk, pumping strength to equip stronger greatswords is a must, focus on Dexterity will make equiping dual daggers and if they have, bows much easier to do so.

Definitely one of the most anticipated games for me. Soulslike with a story and amazing setting. I also started getting in to arpg games with the Diablo series couple years ago.

can't wait for this to come out. the art style, the exploration/secrets, the focus on intelligent/harder combat vs fewer enemies - as opposed to some games i won't mention - is all super appealing.

Man it actually looks like we're in for a treat 😁 it looks amazing!
The combat looks fun and impactful, the sound design seems awesome, atmosphere and art looks really nice.
Definitely a day 1 for me!
