Fwiw, don't actually have to crouch. In fact, it's actually a lot easier to do if you don't crouch.

Yes, the two pipes at either end will send you to minus 1 while the middle to 5-1. Or just keep walking until it turns into the regular warp zone.
Back in the day after I was told about this, I tried it. Then some days pass and it was a big discussion and I was asked if I did it and what happens if you take the middle pipe.

If u brake the block u dont have to crouch, also, u failed it so many times cuz u have to jump from the left corner of the pipe, and start holding right mid air. 👍

I tried it a bunch of times as a kid as I had the "How to Win at Nintendo Games" book that described it but never could pull it off. I haven't tried since then, maybe time for another go just for the heck of it. haha

You kids nowadays call it the minus world; I'm 42 and was a little kid when this game was popular and we called it the secret water world. I remember having a Nintendo cheat book and this secret was one of the "cheats".

I do it a tad bit different. I just go to the edge of the pipe jump up and hit over and he goes. I'll try the ducking method you are using and see what one goes faster.

World -1 is so much cooler in the Famicom version!

Actually at the beginning of the lvl you can just use the boxes in the beginning and get up on the ceiling and run past all enemy's and there is an opening in the end to get to the pipes and it's actually called the teliportation room
