Madame Gaourane - Meraklee

Meraklee (Greek for one who acts with a sense of taste and beauty) is a Neo-Rembetiko/Psychedelic Folk/Blues project created by Jacob Papageorgiou (guitarist/bassist of Isaac's Cello) in Nicosia, Cyprus, 2016. The band retains elements of the Greek rembetiko scene as well as fusing grooves from the Tuareg blues generation of Northern Mali and the Sahara Desert.

Meraklee's first release Madame Gaourane (2016) is a tribute release to Monsieur Doumani and Imarhan, as the arrangement and compositional work of Jacob Papageorgiou is heavily influenced by this repertoire. The album seeks to earn an underground cult status. It also aims to pin an image for the Neo-rembetiko developing scene of the island.

The band consists of: tzoura, classical guitar, vocals and ambient sounds performed by Jacob Papageorgiou.
