Embark on a historical journey through the dramatic Mongol invasions of Japan in the late 13th century. Join us as we explore the intense military campaigns initiated by Kublai Khan, the strategic confrontations, and the legendary “divine winds” that played a crucial role in defending Japan. Delve into the events that shaped the samurai culture and solidified the mythos of the Kamikaze.

🌊 Set sail into the turbulent era of the late 1200s, as Kublai Khan, the formidable Mongol ruler and founder of the Yuan Dynasty, sets his sights on Japan after consolidating control over Korea. Witness his demands for submission from the Japanese, which were defiantly rejected, setting the stage for a colossal clash of cultures and military might.

⚔️ Venture into the details of the first invasion in 1274, where a vast fleet of over 600 ships and 23,000 troops from the Mongol Empire and Korea attempt to invade Japan. Explore the fierce battle at Hakata Bay, where despite being outnumbered, the samurai defenders utilize their superior swordsmanship and intimate knowledge of the terrain to resist the invaders. The Mongols, unaccustomed to the style of hand-to-hand combat and hindered by a typhoon, are forced to retreat.

🚢 Journey through the preparations and onset of the second invasion in 1281, marked by an even larger fleet divided into two forces, intending to converge on Japan. Delve into the intense defensive strategies employed by the Japanese, including the construction of stone defensive walls along potential landing sites. Explore the prolonged stalemate and skirmishes that ensue, highlighting the resilience and tactical ingenuity of the Japanese forces.

🌪️ Witness the legendary Kamikaze, or "divine wind", as a massive typhoon strikes the Mongol fleet, devastating the invaders and forcing them to abandon their plans for conquest. Examine how these natural events were perceived as divine intervention, bolstering the morale and religious fervor of the Japanese people and embedding the concept of Kamikaze into the national psyche.

📜 Reflect on the aftermath and legacy of the failed invasions, which influenced military strategies and fortification tactics in Japan for centuries to come. Consider the impact on the Mongol Empire’s prestige and the subsequent strengthening of bushido, the samurai code of honor. The invasions also underscore the limitations of Mongol naval capabilities and mark the beginning of the decline of Kublai Khan’s naval expeditions.

I get that these 1 hour videos are much easier to produce, but it's the 9 hour videos we are really here for. Thank you for your amazing work! Maybe you'll do a compilation video of these short ones or something ^^

It's fascinating how the Mongols changed over time. They adopted the tactics and technologies of their enemies. They adapted to the different challenges and terrain and became adept at both siege and naval warfare, which was very different from their nomadic origins. Their military organisation with the drums and their use of gunpowder are particularly impressive. In the end, the Japanese were very lucky with the weather.

And when you talk about Tsushima and iki island, of course I also have to mention Ghost Of Tsushima. The best game I've ever played, 10/10. It felt like a movie. You can get a really good insight into the Mongol invasion. Good video bro I enjoyed it, keep it up 💯.

I can't believe those damn Mongols made boats, then made it across a sea!

Also, mind blowing that kamikaze got it's origin from the ceaseless attempts of Mongols to 'get the W', despite the odds they would lose their lives!

Leave it to the Mongols to not understand probability! 😉😂🤣😭
