On October 8, Sigma Xi hosted a Google Hangout with Rosalind Picard, Sigma Xi's 2014 winner of the Walston Chubb Award for Innovation. This award honors and promotes creativity in science and engineering.

The hangout had a couple issues with Internet connection, but they do not last for the entire video.

Professor Picard is director of the Affective Computing Research Group in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Media Lab, an inventor, and a leading pioneer in the field of affective computing. Affective computing involves recognizing, measuring, and communicating emotions.

She is co-founder of Affectiva, a company developing technologies that understand human emotion so that people can have an improved experience as they interact with machines in daily life. She is also co-founder and chief scientist of Empatica, which strives to improve lives with clinical-quality wearable sensors and analytics.
