Yk, I was diagnosed w DID in 1993 and went on disability at that time. I was treated so badly. Even friends wondered why I couldn’t work because my mask was excellent and I certainly “looked” like I should be able to. But I might wake up one day w a child in charge, and by the time an adult regained being ”out front”, we’d be late and lose the job. Or the myriad other issues that kept us from functioning like the “norm”. Ppl were incredibly judgmental.
Then 10 years ago, doctors missed a giant infection I had and I was paralyzed and lost my legs soon after. So now I’m both physically and emotionally disabled, and I’m neurodivergent (but I love that, even when it’s tough).
The treatment I received under both experiences was starkly different from each other. Ppl judged me before, but they “get it” now that I’m visibly disabled.
I just want to thank younger ppl. Y’all have demanded and created space for yourselves that I think is so beautiful. It’s trickled up, too. The older generations are benefiting from your bold self and societal examination and I say thanks, all of you. (Wish more Boomer and Boomer-adjacent folks would get a clue about how maybe they could be wrong and maybe young folks know something they don’t.)

I remember when they were still workshoping this and it originally had lightning bolt shapes with more vibrant colors, but it was causing issues when the flag moved on a screen and triggering epilepsy symptoms.
I love how it turned out ☺️

I love collecting flags like Pokemon badges.
When i discover a new one that represents me, its like finding your name on a keychain in a gift shop.
“Oh look! Its me!” (But obviously, its more impactful)

I'm so glad that the white also represents undiagnosed stuff. I haven't been diagnosed formally with EDS or autism, but I know I have both

I've often said that old mental health asylums should be preserved as a testament to the suffering of nurodivegent forbears had to suffer through. So it's nice to see some representation. Especially for the ones that we have lost.

I honestly have a hard time accepting ane remembering I'm disabled, seeing me still represented by several stripes of the flag is strangely comforting because it shows my disabilities are valid if that makes sense.
I have ADHD and BPD btw, which encompasses neurodivergence and psychiatric disabilities, and arguably being an invisible disability.
Anyways thanks for breaking it down and helping me realize my disabilities and struggles due to them are valid.

Happy Disability Pride Month! 🖤❤️💛🤍🩵💚🖤
I happened to learn about the month and the flag last week while traveling down a Pinterest rabbit hole. Very happy to see a creator use it, spreading both awareness and pride!!! 🤍

My uncle has huntington's disease, i often have to tell people it's like having als, Alzheimer's, and Parkinson's all going on at the same time. It's a neurological condition that is heartbreaking to watch someone suffer through. I lost my grandfather & mother to this condition. This flag is amazing.

I’m disabled and never knew this existed.. but I don’t really talk about my disability unless I’m playing cod and tell people they got beat by a cripple lol I had a stroke and can’t use the left side of my body, but it’s all good because I’m “alright” now 😂😂😂😂

I actually had no idea there was a disability flag and that it included both sensory and mental disabilities on it.

I'm so glad the world is learning!

Wow. I think this is my favorite one. All flags are awesome and have meaning, but this is the most inclusive and thoughtful one I've heard explained.

I'm actually a disabled pansexual woman, and I didn't know this. I suppose I haven't actively researched it, despite checking out other flags. Interesting. I think the symbology is nice.

I’m on this flag, I’m neurodivergent and I think that’s really cool!

I knew that we had a flag, but I didn't realise that my body saw the representation as a blueprint. I have a disability for every light colour. Collecting disabilities like dang pokemon.
