When people can't refute the issues, they attacked the person...

I think it would have been more Christian to discuss the issues Bart brings up without attacking his character, integrity, motivates, happiness level, intentions, teachings, understanding of theology, etc. Agree with his conclusions or not, the man is clearly brilliant, as is James White.

"he is not a happy man, he is not a fulfilled man, he does try to give money to where exactly are you going with this...???

I watched this hoping for reasons to doubt Ehrman's teaching, sadly nothing in this does that. James name calls, insults, generalizes but does not show us one area that Bart is wrong.

If anyone is interested in Bart responding to some of the claims made by James White here, - Christian Reveals Super Villain Secret Origins! (feat Dr Bart Ehrman) (James White response) - is a video where Bart responds to some of this video. Yes, some of it is antithetical to what James claims. As Bart says in his video, James simply could have asked him because they know each other. But he didn't, went by hearsay instead when it comes to some of these things, and got the details completely wrong. Sounds like good Christian Bible scholarship methodology to me!

Prof Erhmin is an historian. It’s his job to contextually criticise the scriptures. Personally I find it helpful to be advised of the contradictions, and inaccuracies of the texts.
I understand how Christians, especially evangelical and fundamentalist, can’t bear to hear the historic facts.

This is a perfect example of what you can do with bad faith: argue against points the author doesn't make.

Bart Ehrman began studying the Bible, biblical theology, and biblical languages at Moody Bible Institute, where he earned the school's three-year diploma in 1976. He earned his BA from Wheaton College in Illinois in 1978. He later earned an MDiv from Princeton Theological Seminary in 1981 and a PhD in 1985, where he studied textual criticism of the Bible, development of the New Testament canon and New Testament apocrypha under Bruce Metzger. Both the baccalaureate and doctorate were conferred magna cum laude. That means his degrees were achieved with high distinction.

"He's not a happy man." "He tries to give money to charities....I think there's a reason for that...."
Wow Dr White.... way to judge someones intentions/motives.

The best way to prove someone wrong is to debate them when they're not there to respond. Well done.

Bart is a historian! He clearly makes a separation between doing history and being a theologian.

James White gives me a really creepy vibe. Do we know anything about his personal life?

Bart has explained many times why he slowly lost his faith, and it's his research that did it. You may dislike what he found, and rightly you fear a man with intelligence that did the work and was willing to say, "this just doesn't make sense." Treat the Bible like a historical text and anyone in good faith will doubt it.

Thank you for speaking Dr James White. I wish I had found this talk a year ago.

Don't knock the person. Deal with the issues.

It’s easy to point out how a certain person is wrong, when they aren’t there.:/

James White, complaining that Erhman is "dismissive" of those who don't agree with him. The irony of such an accusation is a suitable for legendary status.

Questioning who wrote the Bible?!? Gasp... it's almost like Bart is doing history and not maintaining church dogma.

I'm so glad we have this recoding of James White. White is a great example of 'stuck protecting my career'. Not once does he refute Ehrmann or any other Atheist/anti-theist on the facts, just their character. I dare say I despise White's morals.

Im a 56 yr old student of Dr. Ehrman, Im appalled Pastor. “He’s not a happy man” you say. Really? Are you a psychologist? Seems like some classic guilt projection. I was asked to write a review for one of his online lectures, and my main focus was his charismatic personality and humor that kept the student engaged in the material. Just pull up the Finding Moses series. And you’re going to be critical, condescending and sarcastic toward him? I decided to listen to your diatribe because I was taught, we should take in all sides and then form our own hypothesis based on information presented. Sir, if your going to deprecate Dr. Ehrmans scholarship then by all means don’t stop there! How about the scholarship or Dr. Mark Goodacre, Dr. James Tabor, Dr. Elaine Pagels, Dr.Paula Fredriksen, Dr.Andrew Henry and Dr.Richard Carrier to name SEVERAL. Now there is some real critical scholarship with letters in front and behind their names.
Dr. Ehrman is a historian not a theologian like you said. I personally have learned more from him and those mentioned than any pastor, priest, theologian or apologist. Actually its quite fascinating, Im enthralled by biblical history! I certainly understand things a bit differently. Perhaps you feel threatened because of a gnawing suspicion that your own faith needs to be reexamined.
If you don’t agree with someone you can still have humility and be kind. Seems most people commenting on this video agree with me.
Kind regards
