Journalist Fiona Bruce teams up with art dealer Philip Mould -- dubbed "the art detective" -- to investigate remarkable stories beneath the surface of paintings. From Paris and Amsterdam to Cape Town, the banks of the Nile, and New York, the team employs old-fashioned detective skills and the latest forensic testing to reveal compelling tales of lost masterpieces, forgers and Nazi-looted art

As an American I was unfamiliar with this series so I am happy to watch old episodes..I find it fascinating and have learned much about art, the art world and the artists themselves many of whom were known to me and many who were not. It has been quite an education! Thank you, Fiona and Philip!

55:44 I think they are too gutless to admit she's wrong. The case is a slam dunk.

Why would anyone paint over a Nicholson painting to “fake” a Nicholson painting 😂 that’s a little ridiculous

I understand the need for arbiters to exist to control the attribution of works by particular artists. What I can’t understand is why the art world so often entrusts that authority in just one person who can dismiss a work on a whim.

In order for that Nicholson to *not* be by him requires a fantastical — absurd, even — number of coincidences. It is absolutely preposterous that it was rejected.

with all the evidence regarding Nicholson, that women Reid, she just will not accept she is truly wrong, even if DNA was done she is gonna deny it as well.

Again - a mad woman given authority over a painting. The Nicholson is obviously authentic down to the damn thumb print under the N. I hope that woman sues

This WN debacle is an ABSOLUTE OUTRAGE.

The piece is clearly his work. This is a travesty of justice.

We all know this painting is unequivocally authentic.

judgement is worthless and the perpetrator will get theirs in time for this behaviour..

Addicted to these amazing episodes. Love the investigators! Thanks. Keep ‘em coming!

In all the episodes I've seen so far, if a painting's authenticity will overturn or contradict an 'expert's' previous opinion, it will always be deemed a fake.

These folks never admit to being wrong.

I absolutely believe that what happens is a rarified group of overeducated and luddite art experts simply do not want to put their precious reputations on the line by admitting they got it wrong. Saying "no it's not real" will never put a stain on their reputation as an art historian. But saying " it is real I guess I got it wrong" will stain their reputation and at the end the day the experts care more about their reputation than they care about art. And the Nicholson episode is a perfect example of this.

What irrefutable forensic proof have those so-called experts shown on THEIR part to prove the painting in not authentic—if they haven’t, then f*#% them all. Hang on to the piece if you truly love it! That’s how and why I choose and buy all the pieces in my art collection.

I just LOVE what Mould says about getting the experts to reverse their decision on Toulouse-Lautrec: "It ain't going to be easy!"
Never thought I'd hear a posh Brit say 'ain't'.

Student or not, I just don’t see a student feeling right ethically or monetarily enough to paint over a complete known work of a important artist. I know I wouldn’t. I feel it takes the confidence of the original artist to feel comfortable painting over one of their own completed works. I didn’t see any examples of this occurring before her “theory” was put out

Patricia Reed sounds like someone who has something to prove - perhaps her being credited with an expertise she doesn't possess.

Regarding the Nicholson painting … I thing the so-called fake is better than the attributed one. Just sayin’.

I'm surprised that the owners of the works turned down by the "experts" don't sue in the courts. Do the experts have legal standing? I can't imagine so. Yet they often make decisions that deprive the owners of a great deal of money.
