In his annual letter to shareholders released over the weekend, Berkshire Hathaway (BRK-B, BRK-A) CEO Warren Buffett reported the legendary investment firm's cash holdings to have nearly doubled to $334.2 billion; the "Oracle of Omaha" also noted that "53% of our [Berkshire's] 189 operating businesses reported a decline in earnings."
CFRA Research vice president of equity research Cathy Seifert joins Seana Smith and Brad Smith on the Morning Brief to talk more about Berkshire's latest earnings figures, posting total revenues of $371.4 billion and net earnings of $89 billion for full-year 2024.
"My sense is he's [Buffett] thinking that the economy in 2025, there's a lot of uncertainty. And I think there are a lot of people who share that view. I mean, the macro picture, the geopolitical picture has a lot of uncertainty, makes it very difficult to plan," Seifert says.
"And you've got equity valuations that, quite frankly, I think there are a number of us in this business that are a little surprised at how well they've they've held up, given all the risk largely... stemming out of some of the actions in Washington."
The analyst highlights the growth that Berskhire's insurance business could see as it as due to pay out $1.3 billion in claims tied to wildfires this year.
Catch up on how Berkshire Hathaway has been adjusting its investment portfolio in recent months, including the firm's five biggest holdings.

Spoke to a friend who works in finance and he said that Warren Buffet (and Charlie Munger when he was alive) has a highly developed model of the economy in his mind. So when something is off, he can sense it. And that's why he's selling.

So, this friend of mine is rebalancing his portfolio too. Not to sell everything, only what he thinks are probably over valued.

I agree that many people are considering NVDA as the "Stock of the year." However, I'm curious about which stocks could potentially become the next Nvidia in terms of growth over the next decade. I've allocated $200k for investment, aiming to retire comfortably.

Bullish or bearish, AI stocks will still dominate 2025, even beyond. Why I prefer NVIDIA is that they are better placed to maintain long-term growth potential, and provide a platform for other AI companies. I know someone who has made more than 200% from NVIDIA. I'll also take these other recommendations you made.

Is BrK-a secretly shorting the market? Last week it was up when the market made historical drops. The tickers it claims to own are down for the year but the etf is climbing.

How long can he hold this cash position, without an actual market crash, before his investors start questioning?

Buffet has been long in this game, they got top people running their risk-analysis, if they are not buying, we should probably not buy either.

A wise person knows that building wealth requires wise investments and proper knowledge or guidance in the financial market. The stock market offers opportunities to maximize profit, but executing effective transactions requires skill and expertise.

If I was warren buffet I would earn in the same shroud earnings but get me and my home ai setup to spend on shitloads of tid bits but work my overall wealth down relative to if I'm nearer the end of not. If warran buffet did this and the ai made buffet approved decisions how much economy and people would that help. Do randomly is not as good as buffet style. The big loads of tid bits where you can earn back later like some crowd sourcing with buffet care where you can't dictate only what buffet would approve of would be my gift to humanity if I were buffet and didn't want to leave a dynasty and it might be fun.
