I just wanted to take a second to say how much I appreciate videos like this! I don't have a ton of spare time and the time I do have I like to use for reading so the reasonings you listed at the beginning of the video are literally the ones I had to click on this video. I wish I could watch all the videos from the booktubers I follow but I usually only click on videos like this or wrap ups, so I'm really grateful to you for making videos like this <3 thank you so much!

Godkiller was fantastic and I would never have picked it up if not for this channel so much thanks on that score. As for Fourth Wing, I couldn't finish it. I didn't like the writing or the main character. But I do kind of understand its popularity because it is fantasy-lite popcorn reading and seriously, props to the publisher for getting it into the hands of the right people on social media early on to evangelize it.

I just finished “The Book that Wouldn’t Burn” by Mark Lawrence a few days ago and I cannot stop thinking about it. 5 star read for me. Very surreal world with great characters. Expertly plotted to where when you finished the book you wanted to reread it all over again to see how he planted the seeds. Themes of the book included intelligence vs education/opportunity, xenophobia, cyclical violence, confirmation bias, and manipulation of knowledge into propaganda. Very much looking forward to the rest of the series.
I think Lawrence is known for grimdark fantasy but this wasn’t grimdark at all.

I haven’t read Forth Wing yet but it seems like a lot of people are looking for this type of story based how in love with it so many people are.

The Fourth Wing hype is for real. My student (in college) saw my copy in my laboratory window ledge and said she couldn't get hold of a copy and so I let her borrow it. I was enjoying it, too. Thank you.

Two recent releases, I've read and loved this month would be The Will of the Many by James Islington and Painted Devils by Margaret Owen. I picked up Will of the Many because I saw a lot of Red Rising comparisons and I would agree with those but the main character also reminded me a bit of Lee from Fireborne by Rosaria Munda. Painted Devils I was a little nervous about since I knew Little Thieves had originally been sold as a standalone and now it's going to be a trilogy but I just had such a fun time.

My current ride or die new release is The Will of the Many by James Islington. It has some really interesting themes that it's exploring and has a wonderful magic school setting that is executed really well.

These new release videos have been so helpful for me as I’m getting back into them after a couple years of rereads and backlog!

Do you have any intent to pick up The Surviving Sky by Kritika Rao? I’m loving the lush worldbuilding and complex characters so far

Just got a signed copy of godkiller today. Looking forward to reading it. The lady in the bookshop informed me she is a local (Northumberland, UK) which I didn’t know. So I can’t wait to read it. It’s also a beautiful hardback with great artwork. The author informed the book store lady that the same artist will be working on book two.

I have a genuine question, what does “purple writing” mean? I really want to read this book and I want to understand the writing style before going into it.
Thanks for sharing 🤍

"Blood Over Bright Haven" by M. L. Wang was my favorite 2023 release. So underated, so please give it a try. It is a standalone Dark Academia for fans of Fullmetal Alchemist. ❤
