Straight facts. "Homework" should be optional, supplemental education, or, in other words, just studying for exams. If you dont understand the material, that's your job to learn it, but "homework" shouldn't ever be taken as a grade. There's just too much room for cheating as well, it doesn't actually reflect on a student's performance or learning.

Exactly, the teacher during the 1 hour has no idea what they are doing, teaching you concepts that relate little to actually doing the work because they don’t actually know how to teach. The homework is basically the thing that teaches you the real thing because class is mostly filler.

true, but my 5th grade teacher YEARS AGO actually taught us in their time and even offered education by sacrificing about 10 mins of ur lunch to go to his room for him to partially teach you the next lesson. every time its dismissal, he doesn't give you homework at all and he said "the only homework you need to do are the projects you couldn't finish in time" or "if you can't do the projects in time, i'll give you more time for as much as you need to fully complete it"

Bro- I'm from the Philippines where we have a subject called MAPEH. It's a combination of Music, Arts, Physical Education, and Health. There's this one teacher I had back during lockdown who was honestly just iconic. She would tackle 2-4 ENTIRE modules of lessons in 1 hour when other teachers would just end up teaching 1, then making their students read the rest offline. I absolutely love her <33

bro my math teacher for 6th grade was all homework no teaching, in fact she relied on homework so much, that in class she would eat pizza and other food, and just be in her phone while the students did the homework. It was outrageously stupid that I had to spend hours focusing on homework. What’s even dumber is that some students (including myself) would try to do the math homework in other classes, but the teachers always said “put the homework away before I take it from you”. one time my science teacher ripped a important math assignment RIGHT IN MY FACE.

As an aspiring teacher... yeah. I do think that there's a difference between homework that's useless and like assignments. The way I would personally try to handle essays or assignments is to allow students to work on them during class time or on their own if they wish and not hound them about it. I would also want to make sure that we agreed on a due date individually so that the work would get done and it would be of great quality. If the due date comes and there's nothing, we'd renegotiate. Basically, I would treat them like adults and prepare them for what the workforce is actually like lol
