Delonghi Pixie Nespresso Machine Review and Test

In this video, I show you the Delonghi Pixie. It is very small, very convenient, and very easy to use. This little guy has been in my arsenal since about 2014, before I got into portafilter espresso machines.

It makes coffee via capsules that contain about 5 to 6 grams of finely ground coffee, to yield essentially an espresso lungo. You can find the capsules easily and cheaply (at least in Europe), for around 10-20 cents each.

Thanks Tom.

Fyi. Enjoyed all your Delonghi Dedica reviews, mods and DIY fixes. We've had ours since 2013. Love the small foot print, wonderful morning cappuccino. In addition, we recently migrated from Whirly-Pop home roasting methos to the Fresh Roast SR540 w/extension tube. Life just kwazy good!

Luv your channel and authentic straight-talk.

We just retired our Inissia as it cracked where the capsules go in and started leaking. We got it in 2016 and used it for 4-6 coffees daily that entire time. That was our second home machine since 2011. I can't remember the first model as my wife had it when we got married (this was when we still lived in the EU) but the theromoblock died (or so said nespresso). In general, they seem to last 5-7 years with a lot of use. On the flip side, I don't think the cheap Mixpresso we got from Amazon for the office is going to last a year, lol.

While I don't use Nespresso anymore, my wife does, and it is good for company. We will probably always keep one around.

Thanks for the video, as always.

Review accurately corresponds to my experience.
These days I don't like the taste of lungo, probably from the years I spent drinking office filter coffee, followed by bad cafe espresso.
Anyways, I opened up one of those pods and it had 7g of coffee in it.
Tended to find the shots were like from stale pre-ground coffee.
Also I found the flavored pods to be ghastly, but that is just me not liking flavoring in my consumables.

These very minimalistic and low cost nespresso pod based machines have a few use cases IMO

For ppl that occasionally JUST want a coffee. Doesn't need to be fancy, strong, nuanced or of great quality. Just coffee.

They take up very little space in the kitchen.

Other than that, they don't make sense in households that regularly drink coffee, due to lots of aluminium waste and high cost per cup

Thanks Tom! It would be interesting to see how it is inside and, in the same video, to open the Pixie by Krups. You don’t see everyday the same coffee machine made by two different brands…an internal comparasion would be very very interesting! (Also to know if the thermoblock is made in alluminium, if they are plastic free…)

Thank you so much for the video, I was curious about the maschine, cause I bought it second hand. So I had no booklet for using and cleaning.
4:17 But mine has no on / off button. Is it an older one?

Could you please test the new Nespresso Essenzia Mini? i tested it, and find the taste of the coffee not similar to the older nespresso machine

Hello Tom. I was curious how you would rate the quality of coffee from capsules. I used Nespresso for a year, but even a small espresso of 30 ml was watered down. I recently bought Sage barista impress and I find that what comes out of the capsules is difficult to even call espresso. Have a nice day!

Pixie is by far more reliable than inisia. Though designed for home use, it has survived intense use in our office. Aesthetically very good.
Of course you do not drink real espresso using this machine, but the easy of use, and convenience is legendary.

Thanks for the awesome review. I have a Rancilio Sylivia and Baratza Vario but no longer use it. The hobby of espresso became a bit of a hassle for me. I picked up Nespresso but wonder if a budget super auto machines like the Phillips 3200 or Magnifica Evo would actually offer much of an improvement over Nespresso.

Die neueste Ausführung der Pixie hat keinen Ausschalter und keine LEDs mehr. Die metallisch aussehenden Seitenteile sind aus receyceltem Plastik von Kapseln. Ich nutze eine Pixie auch im Büro 😉

Hi Tom, do you have any experience with the Gaggia Super automatic espresso machines? Looking at the Gaggia Cadorna Prestige - have you used this machine? What are your thoughts?

Hi Tom love your videos, I recently got the IMS H26 basket to go with my Delonghi Dedica EC685, it fits in my portafilter just fine but the portafilter itself doesnt fit in the locking mechanism with the basket, I’ve read online that its because of the curved ridge on the basket. any advice/solution? thanks!

the original Nespresso capsules are terrible. If you can, take the red or black blend “BORBONE” capsules. They are Italian, I don't know if they are also available beyond that.
