I Made 1920's Inspired Shoes by Hand | Why Everyone is Creative

I made 1920's inspired shoes by hand - and in this video, I will be sharing why everyone is creative! This is a cozy look at the hand shoe making process, sharing helpful thoughts and experiences about creativity in general - and why today is the best day to pursue that creative dream of yours! Whether it's shoemaking, or writing, or painting, you've got this!

These shoes are modelled after 1920's Mary Janes, with intricately detailed straps, an antique Art Deco buckle, and what would have been termed a "mannish" heel back in the 20's.

Side note - I am thrilled to finally be able to capture the amazing sounds of the shoe making process. With five kids in the house I was never able to include audio in my making-videos, but now with my quiet studio building, this has been made possible.

Enjoy the process of making flapper shoes by hand! Hope this video leaves you feeling inspired to follow your own creative dreams!

I didn't know I needed to make shoes until now 😍

What a lovely video and a beautiful adventure you are on. I actually read the same study you are speaking of. It's such a shame that the majority of us get stifled and lose our five year old creative genius. We are born creative and intelligent but then we get conditioned otherwise.

Love the shoes! It would be so awesome to live like you do. These days things are just taking away basically our lives. We work for a “life” which is so wrong for us. You make a huge difference Katherine. Thanks 😊

My grandmother used to sew shoes. Her family was in the shoe making business. I love your Mary Jane's they are very practical. ❤️

I used to watch my uncle 😇 who ran his own tannery and he made leather moccasins and leather boots amongst other other leather products in his shop. Brings back so many memories. Thanks for sharing!

I have pretty severe lymphedema in spring / summer (CRPS patient/disability), plainly stated: my legs balloon and look like elephant's feet. I am *so thankful* that they make wide shoes. Being able to make your own shoes must be such a great skill to have, so rewarding I bet! 😄 I think those are very nice shoes! Don't underestimate yourself!!!

They look loved and comfortable. We have had a traditional cobbler in our downtown core for a few generations.
He makes, restores and even creates some of the best leather shoes.
Talent is having the creativity to imagine and the fortitude to create.❤

They are beautiful shoes! If I were a shoe-wearer, I would love a pair like this! I think maybe the thing you have that some others lack is determination, perseverance, and faith in yourself.

Yes! I see my handmade things as little talismans of the experiences I had during the making process. For example, I knit during the summer months when we take long rides around my rural area. In winter that simple dishcloth, the shawl..all remind me in a very visceral way of the sunshine, the conversations, the places we stopped. It's all woven in.
My grandfather was a saddler and sometimes he made shoes. I miss the smell of his leather shop so much. I bet your kids will have a similar memory! (Does it smell good in there!? :D) I am a crafter too but I give up easily with challenging projects. IMO The world needs a renaissance of makers. I also believe everyone can make something useful, beautiful. I love your shoes! <3

I adore the commentary on this video so much, the honesty and self-reflection is so refreshing. I actually dove back into historical methods after seeing a few of your videos. I have since created a corset and a handful of dresses as well as reviving my hair routine and the sense of validation that came with it is amazing so thank you for that. I hope that one day I have evolved and improved my skills as well as you have!💚

Your shoes are stunning! I love your positivity and encouragement. You are such a special lady with so many fantastic ideas and beliefs. I would love to wear and own a pair of shoes designed and made by you. I know so many ladies who would love to wear your designs. You have unlimited potential, and I’m curious to see which direction you will take. Thank you for your beautiful content. 🤍

You have created a very handsome pair of shoes! I have long admired the styles of that period. My grandmother had some of her shoes from the twenties, that where I discovered those styles. However, I am not, at this age, going to start another creative project. I shall live through you!! Thank you for sharing your crafts and the emotional pleasures you have received…warts and all, creativity is important in many ways. Well done 🤩👏🏻👏🏻🍁

Well done. Your shoes are fabulous. This comment is from someone who collected vintage clothing since the 1970s.
