I’m not sure that any rivalry game has had more championship implications than the red River shootout. Especially when you take into consideration how many times both teams were ranked in the top 10. Maybe Ohio state vs Michigan? I can’t find the data on them, but the iron bowl has only had 8 top 10 matchups to red river’s 16. There definitely isn’t another environment that matches up though. The neutral site state fair game is insane.

I really miss OU vs Nebraska. I loved it as a kind even more than OU vs. Texas. The honor each team had with each other was matched only by Army vs. Navy. A true a proper rivalry.

This game was in no way disappointing for either team.
They can both win out and finish this game in the Big12 championship. I’m hopeful they get to do so.
Texas lost the ball 3 times and yet maintained their game plan on both sides of the ball effectively.
OU dictated clock management in this game no two ways about it.
OU tackled the football like dart champions. They flat mugged the game ball and I thought that took a toll on yards after catch and run after initial contact.
It’s not enough to take care of the ball down field against this OU defense. It’s in the opposing offenses best interest to get down on the ground after contact because they’re not coming to take you down their coming to beat your arms right off of you and take the ball away. They own the defensive identity hands down. It’s a game changer.
Both teams face lots of improvement throughout the rest of the season.
They both must take care of their schedules with authority and solid improvement and I do not count either team out.
Texas ran out of time in this hope to be part 1 of a 2 part series.
